I first met Matt a few years ago when he got in touch near the beginning of his tattooing career and he asked me to build him some left handed machines and I have built several for him since. I love the style of Matt's art and he was in fact an award winning artist prior to starting tattooing. Matt has tattooed a colour portrait of one of my dogs on my leg and I love it, it is my fave tattoo .He also designed my first lot of tshirts and designed the bulldog and machines on my homepage. I am very proud to be sponsoring Matt as part of my Team31 and I am sure you'll agree that his artwork is amazing, check out the pics below. Matt has his own studio, MB Custom Art and Tatttoo in Saddleworth, Oldham.
"Art has fascinated me from as early as I can remember..As a kid I was always at my happiest when I had a pencil and paper in front of me,and I always dreamed one day I'd be an artist..I kinda stumbled into tattooing though..I'd viewed the tattooing world as one which I could never be a part of ; an exclusive scene, like a magic circle - shrouded in secrets and mystery.. I was often asked by friends to draw up designs which they would take in to tattooists, but it was my brother who pushed me to take it further and try to learn about tattooing..In 2008,I decided to get intouch with Danny Fuller, who ran a tattoo course from his Red Dragon studio in Sussex..- It wasn't the conventional way to start, but I came back from the course with a new lease of life..I realised i had a lot to learn!. It was a couple of years later when I felt confident enough to approach a local studio, who took a chance on me and I began to work there part-time..My initiation into the team was to tattoo two portraits of the gaffer's grandkids onto his leg!, very daunting to say the least!. I quickly became the portrait guy, which was very cool :-) ...It was around this time,in 2010 that I got intouch with Jez..I had heard about his machines, and and his passion for the industry, which was apparent as soon as we spoke..Jez was aware I had little experience, but he could see i was keen to learn and very persistent!,and we struck up a friendship..Eventually,Jez agreed to build me a machine..I still recall the excitement I had when I opened that box for the first time!..The turning point in my tattooing career, for me,was using CC machines (I own a fair few of em these days!)..After two years in the studio,an opportunity came for me to get my own place and I haven't looked back..I specialise in black and grey realism, portraits, fantasy work, but like to think I'm quite varied in what I tattoo, and will never shy away from a challenge (just as long as it's not tribal! )..Tattooing has certainly changed my life, and i feel so blessed to at last be a part of the special family.
